Faculty and staff at the Wilson College of Textiles are always looking for alumni and industry professionals who are willing to share their experiences—whether through classroom visits, panel discussions, guest lectures, or other engagement opportunities.

Your insights into career pathways, graduate school decisions, industry trends, and personal journeys can be incredibly impactful for our Wilson College community.

TMS 212 and TE 589 introduce students to textile technologies and the textile industry. As students begin exploring the field and the range of career opportunities available to them, hearing directly from alumni and industry professionals can provide valuable perspective on how their education connects to careers in textiles.

Alumni and professionals working in textile manufacturing, product development, technical textiles, textile innovation, sustainability and related fields are invited to visit the class and share their career experiences, current work and perspectives on the textile industry.

Guest Speaker

Share your career journey, professional experience and insights into your area of the textile industry. Sessions may include an informal presentation or facilitated conversation followed by student questions.

Guests are encouraged to discuss topics such as their career path, current role, day-to-day responsibilities, experiences within the textile industry, lessons learned and advice for students who are beginning to explore the field.

Typical commitment: One class period

The goal is to make participation meaningful for students while requiring as little preparation from volunteers as possible.

Volunteers will receive relevant information in advance, which may include:

Course and student audience overview
Purpose and expectations for the guest speaker engagement
Suggested questions or discussion prompts
Session logistics and classroom information

The faculty member will connect with volunteers in advance as appropriate to discuss their background, experience and the best fit for the class.

Guest speakers may participate during either of the following class times:

TMS 212: Monday or Wednesday, 9:10–10:00 AM

TE 589: Monday or Wednesday, 1:30–2:45 PM

Alumni and professionals with experience across the textile industry are encouraged to participate and share their perspectives with students who are beginning to explore careers in the field.

In-person participation is preferred, though virtual participation is also welcome.
